ive just taken my 1993 defender 110 tdi on motorway / long distance trip for the first time since I’ve had it. I’ve taken the cubby box out to give more space and I noticed that the plate between the seat boxes on the floor got really really hot .
Is that expected?

The seat boxes underneath the driver's and passenger's seats, or the inspection plate that sits between the driver's and passenger's seat and usually under the cubby or middle seat ?

Yep they can get hot, especially in hot weather! Same as tranny tunnel. Have a check on g/box and t/box oils just to make sure they're up to level, and maybe worth a change of oil depending on when you did it last
