Hi all,

Seems my little lady is having issues lately, the last one was the headlight washer motor packing in - not a great issue, as easy to replace, but when replacing the headlight washer motor broke off the pipe bit, so I now need one of them - which is proving difficult to find, or very expensive.

Has anyone found an alternative pump to fit and power the headlight washers (given it is larger than the windscreen motor and also has a larger diameter pipe), as need this fixing asap as running around without a headlight washer system...just a squirty bottle in my hand at the traffic lights!

Cheers

I was 50 years old before I got a car with a headlamp washer and I have been driving since I was 17. How did I manage for all those years?

I know, but as its there, it's a mot requirement to work, and hassle to have it all removed, as not sure how to block up the water bottle.....

Possibly a good candidate for one of the JB Weld products to carry out a repair.

Unfortunately there is not enough to weld back together, as pipe seemed to crumble away....

No it ain't according to the govt's website to do with the MOT tester's manual.
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-ins...ivate-passenger-and-light-commercial-vehicles
Only important on a vehicle after 2009.
MOT Testers Manual:
4.1.6. Headlamp cleaning devices
You must inspect vehicles first used on or after 1 September 2009 equipped with headlamp washers.
You can identify HID headlamps from:
  • 'DCR’ mark on the headlamp lens or body
  • an igniter module or inverter behind the headlamp
  • taking a few seconds to reach full intensity
  • a bluish tinge to the light
HID headlamps use high voltage. You should take care when inspecting these headlamps.

Defect Category
(a) Headlamp cleaning device:

(i) inoperative
(ii) inoperative in the case of LED or gas discharge systems (HID)

Minor
Major

So if it's registered after 1st September 2009 and has them fitted, they have to work. The only difference is that with HID or LED lamps the failure is a Major one, instead of a Minor one. Don't get me started on the nonsense about Minor/Major fails, its a fail.

as your's is a D1 no problem.

Mmm, slight problem there as I have done a full custom hella bi xenon headlight conversion, hence the need for the headlight washers, so my thinking is I need them despite being an old codger d1....

Maybe. depends on the MOT tester.
Could you not just put the old lights back on for the MOT?;););)

No chance of that, as made a full custom headlight box to fit the hella bi xenon projector lights. No way will any old disco lights fit now.....

Hencr why I need a pump, but think I have found a pump that might work from a mgzs
