having a problem with my nearside headlamp, and the local dealer has said its knackered, buy a new one!!

the issue is occasionaly the full beam sticks on, and apparently the dip is done via a shutter in the unit, and not a bulb shutting off. The lamp eventually dips with a bump on the road etc, but I am getting quite a few flashes at night from on-coming drivers :(

As a new lamp is somewhere between £450-£600 for the xenon lamps I was hoping someone may have an idea on how to get the shutter repaired.

all help gratefully received!

Having old **** I don't have experience with your vehicle
BUT
I do have experience with hid lamps and it is quite possible that the bulb uses a solenoid to dip the lamp -basically on the ones I have seen when you power the dip mechanism it uses an electromagnet to pull the lamp to dip position.

Before parting with any cash it would be wise to investigate if the mechanism can be stripped.
If it isn't totally ****ed it may be possible to clean it-if plastic then silicone grease for model car gearboxes with nylon cogs can be purchased from local model shop.

DO NOT TOUCH LAMP DIRECTLY

i'll get it pulled out and see what is involved. LR guys were adamant it was a new unit but if it's a shutter/solenoid it looks like it just needs freeing up.

Was hoping there may be someone specialising in that already, given the price of the units I'm sure it has been an issue before.

have to get me big hammer out! :scratching_chin:

Dealers now days replace instead of repair, its done that way to maintain a higher quality of work (replacements will be good, repairs may not work).

I would do as suggested and take it out, have a look, figure out the mechanism and lubricate it all.

Word of warning, HiD lights use VERY high voltages, do not work with the lights turned on, it will hurt!!

Erm, as it's a Disco 4, and they only came out (IIRC) in 2009, isn't it covered under the warranty?
