Hi, ive got a 200tdi disco engine im my def. just wondering if landrover ever fitted the 3 hole head gaskets as standard?? ino that usually they are 2 hole. Mine has recently gone and so am in the process of repairing it. sent head away to get it checked to see if it has warped, though have just looked and found i had a 3 hole head gasket already. does this definatly mean the head has been skimmed before? There is no damage to the gasket (that i can see). Does this suggest that its not a failure of the gasket thts caused this to happen? are there any common reasons why these gaskets go on the 200s? went between cylinders 2+3. is it worth putting anuva gasket on if the head it unwarped? apparently the head according to landrover cant be skimmed, is this the likly reason it failed, presumably again? Any info much appreciated!! Cheers Pete

just called the engineering company i sent it to and the head doesnt need skimming. Any idea as to failure? could it be it was torqued down incorrectly before? ino that at sum point the head has been off as 4 new valves have been fitted. it appread the pistons had hit them. previous timing belt failure respnsible? or could this be why a thicker gasket was fitted?

the thickness of head gasket depends on how far pistons protude above block face ,every body fits 3 hole as its easier than measuring accurately and doesnt seem to effect performance once a ali head has been hot enough to warp it becomes relaxed and liable to move again, thats not to say this allways happens depends how hot its been but its not something you can measure but generally it is more likely to go again . if head has been skimmed valve face must sit betwwen 1.1 to 0.9 mm below head face
