The HDC warning light on my 55 plate has come on. On ignition it comes on with all the other warning lights and when the engine is started it goes off. Once I start to move, forward or reverse, it comes on. Sometimes after 50 yards, sometimes after half a mile - then stays on.

I've searched the archive to see what other folk have done. My brake lights work perfectly and the TC & ABS warnings do not come on. I changed the brake switch for a new one from a local LR independent as for £10 it could have been a cheap fix.

What else could it be & how do I check the HDC switch is not faulty ?

Had the same problem after tightening the free play at the throttle body. Slackened it again and problem cured.

Am I right in thinking the pot is by the pedal and on a 55 plate and cannot be replaced - it comes complete with the pedal assembly ?
Is there any way to test the pot ?

I'll try the throttle adjustment first in the engine bay.

thanks for the advice chaps

As far as I know the pot on all K series is on the throttle body

Throttle cable adjustment and new pot fitted (best price was Rimmers by the way) but light is still on. The odd thing is if I start the car with the brake pedal held down the light does not come on straight away when setting off but does after about 500 yards. Any other ideas ?

So does it come on if you start the car without touching the pedals immediately?

Also, have you set the sensor up correctly on the pedal? (I assume that's the bit you changed?)

Good call Alibro. Loosened the cable 4 turns on the nut and hey presto the light has gone out. Thanks all.

Glad I could help. Not often I'm right about anything so gonna sit here in a glow of smug self satisfaction. :D
