for those with autos and interested in a bit of info.i replaced stock t converter and flex plate with hd ones.the rattle at 2250 rpm every one complains about is a little more subdued but still there.i also changed zf 4hp22 to the 4hp24 internals.so,drivability?shifts smoother and revs stay a little lower between shifts.lock up in fourth still happens at 40mph with light throttle.will stay locked up even at 30mph with light throttle but gives symptoms like a manual in too high of a gear wilst slowing down.1300rpm in 4th lock up at 40mph!
over all an improvement.the 4hp24 conversion i did myself as all of my 2003-2004 donor cars have this auto anyway.so no cost there.t converter to canada pricey.i have since spoken to a machine shop and they can adapt my v8 t converters to td5 tconverters for a little over 2 hours labour.flex plates are simply cnc laser cut.most machine shops can do this fairly easy.
for you boys over there, the price of hd tconverter and flex plate are reasonable
ie no shipping and core fee.
i would recommend this swap if you have a few extra bucks and a weekend to squander and like auto driving.

Can you detail the gearbox mods please?

you will need the rear tail shaft and housing from your td5 hp22.you have to disassemble the 24 and put the 22 rear tail shaft and housing in it.use the front 24 clutches as well as one way clutch.ashcroft has pics of parts retained from 24 box.also need to keep 24 oil pump.oil pump is 15mm thicker than 22 pump but rear drive shaft should have enough movement in slip yoke to accommodate extra length.
when taking apart the transmissions stack all bits the way they came out.do not force together on reassembly.should go together without to much trouble.
zf auto is the easiest box i have worked on.

Whats the difference between the zf4hp22 & the zf4hp24 and how do you know what your Disco is fitted with?
