I'm sure there was a recent thread that veered/hijacked into this, but can't find it.
Anyhoo - approaching MOT and some play in at least one ball-joint so looking into the work to do that, and someone (on that thread I can't find...) mentioned its not much more just to replace. Certainly at 220000 original rods and at least 2 original joints they would take some dismantling and refurb to use the threads/adjustments.
Very reliable local supplier had - dare I say......Britpart HD set which of course comes with all new ball-joints for not a lot more than just the joints....

I have definitely seen folk suggesting Britpart swivels are fine, and the rods are massive solid steel so I've taken the plunge. Apart from catastrophic failure the worst is early replacement...... They look and feel very similar to the Terrafirma product......., and do have standard ball-joints as and when those need replacing.

Fitting next week - thanks whoever it was that made me head in this direction, very sound advice on upgrade rather than make do with ancient stuff, as for the brand let's see..... ;-) Cheers, A

I have them, bought from Paddocks a few years ago for £65 ish. Still on the same ball-joints, they've lasted longer than any props and UJ'd I've had .. :)

That's encouraging, tvm. Of course the garage (ran out of time to do them myself) found the damper/drop arm bracket completely rusted in so that's ordered in - so seemed rude not to replace the damper with a Terrafirma that Dingo's were very keen to sell me. I'll end up with it looking like some bling-mobile if I'm not careful...... ;-) Happy days - I'm sure it must breeze the MOT tomorrow......maybe.....ish..... A

Well 2 advisories - apparently it has 'some body corrosion' and 'some structure corrosion' ......blow me down!

Slightly more irritating the fitting of the bling new drag link, track rod and damper has entailed engineering in a steering boss rubbing on the cowl, and worse a major metallic chatter up the steering column at about 55 grrrrr. Any ideas? Steering wheel clearly been off to centre it after tracking - maybe clouting the splines to release SW damaged a UJ..... ? Oh well..... Cheers A

I had similar clattering on my 90 which turned out to be a U.J too far on the splines so the shaft was actually protruding into the joint causing it to chatter and sometimes it would bind up which is less than ideal when negotiating a roundabout or staggered crossroads!!!

Hmmmmm, sounds on the money. If it's not peeing down a bit of Saturday investigation I think..... Thanks, A
