Hi, I have a Discovery 2 facelift, when I got it about four years ago, I bought the Bearmach Haykeye diagnostic reader, which has been absolutely brilliant. I'm thinking of getting a Discovery 3, Does the Hawkeye work with the Disco 3 ? Do I need to get it updated or get a new cable or similar ?

The only thing I can see on the website is for some new "Hawkeye Total" plus references for different dongles, but it doesn't seem to explain exactly what's needed.

If so, I might do that in advance so I can read the codes on any potential new purchase.

Thanks

Mat

The Hawkeye Total will work with anything from a TD5 Defender to an L322 (though you may need different cables/dongles). If you are asking the question it probably means your earlier version does not. The reason for this deduction is that when the Total starts you have to scroll through a list of compatible vehicles to select the one you want. If you are not doing this, my guess is that it only works on one.
Of course the D3 will be OBDII compatible so you may well get away with a more generic tool for basic diagnostics. The Foxwell NT530 should be capable of doing pretty much everything you need.

The dongles arent really that necessary and are only for interrogating the oddball bits of the system on a D3. Most stuff works in Hawkeye total out of the box. Normal Hawkeye is only unlocked for the models you pay to get the codes for unfortunately

OK, so this part answers my question. So do I need to buy an upgrade for my original Hawkeye tool that's unlocked for my Disco 2 TD5 to make it also work with the Discovery 3 ? ie new software version or cables etc ?

Thanks

message bearmach, they are helpful,

OK, so the official info from Bearmach is that "The manufacturers have stopped supplying unlock codes and stopped manufacturing of Hawkeye".. so unfortunately it can only work with Discovery 2 Td5..... I'm a little bit ticked off about this, because when I bought it I'm sure they made some claims that it can be unlocked for other versions... and the box clearly shows a picture of a Discovery 3 on the front ;-(

The hawkeye will work on the D3 and D4 as per the spec listing what it can do but if they have stopped selling the licenses then yer stuck. :(

That's ridiculous, there's still loads of websites advertising unlocking codes for the Hawkeye?!?!? So what happens when you purchase one and then ring support for the code???:eek::eek:
