I'm at my wits end here, I only purchased my second hand Freelander (2000) plate, about 2 weeks ago and I'm having nothing but problems with it.
My problem is one that the car alarm is playing up big time. It first started off when I was cleaning the car in the backs with doors closed (but unlocked) and the alarm off. When I tried to start the car it would not start, so I put the alarm on and off again, and still it didn't start. I did the same again (alarm on/off), but waited 10 minutes before knocking if off this second time and it started OK.
Last week this has happened a view times to me since, and it seemed to be only happening if I exit the car and leave the doors unlocked with alarm off. But each time now, I've noticed I have to wait a longer period of time after putting the alarm on, before knocking it off to get the engine immobilizer to knock off so it will start. The alarm on each occasion opens the doors and knocks off no problem, but the engine immobilizer doesn't let the car start (dead ignition).
However, last night after this happening to me again at a petrol station (doors left unlocked with alarm off) while I nipped in the shop, which then meant me having to wait 4 hours before the car would start with engine immobilizer off.
I got home later and parked it up outside my home, put the alarm on and went to bed. This morning I knocked the alarm off and the car would not start still (engine immobilizer still on). This has never happened before if the alarm was on, then knocking it off (like you should). It's always started up OK doing that. Only leaving the doors unlocked with alarm off has been the problem before that until today.
Also, when I turn the key in the ignition to light-up the dash first, I can hear a buzzing noise near the ignition, but it feels like it might be coming from under my drivers seat. If I hear that noise I know the car won't start and immobilizer is still on (dead ignition).
I need some advice here as to what the hell the problem is with this car.
Should it even have been arming the engine immobilizer with doors unlocked and alarm off while nipping into a shop? I'm talking 3-5 minutes, then coming out the shop and finding the car engine is dead, and after putting the alarm on, I may have to wait hours before I can knock it off again, letting the engine start-up. But like I said before, now it done it even with alarm on and doors locked, then after 8 hours in bed, I find on knocking the alarm off (all lights flash, doors unlock) e.t.c. That the ignition is dead (immobilizer is still on).
