Hi there,

Completely new to the club I've purchased a 2007 discovery 3 that the previous owner had for a long time, full service history hasn't wanted for anything.
Done all checks possible before purchasing and it drove my family 3.5 hours away to the lake district last month with zero problems.

A friend of my partners brought 2 drums of fuel from work and filled up the truck and everything seemed fine, driving like normal that day didn't use it the next went to drive a day later and nothing... it was trying to turn over but wouldn't.
Thought it may have been sediment in the drums as it was the only thing that had changed it wasn't red just normal diesel from a garage surplus to his work van.
Plugged in diagnostics, low fuel pressure tried the small pump was clicking so it was trying to turn over, still nothing fuel line and oil filter were changed still showing low pressure so we purchased a high pressure fuel pump around 3 weeks later got someone to fit it still wouldn't start. (Wasn't started during this time)

Abit more messing around today the battery was charged for around 4 hours was only reading 50% tried to turn it over and was dropping right back down.
Mechanic came back and was tinkering around it started great we thought we were back on the road took it for a drive around 10 mins or so, parked it outside of our home.
Went to jump in and now the immobiliser light is on and the hazards are flashing on and off and just clicking lights on dash are stating parking break fault and an hdc fault I think it was. It's as if the key is not registering in the ignition.
We're in over Β£1000 with parts and labour can anyone shine a light on what it could be I'd really appreciate any help especially if it's something we could possibly check or do ourselves.

Need a 100% charged, healthy battery before you go any further. Get a brand new one and still charge it, they can come off the shelf flat.

If the battery isn't up to snuff these newer landys can throw all sorts of spurious faults

Edit to add, you say it was trying to turn over. If the battery was ok and fuel was the issue it would spin over ok just not fire. The low fuel pressure could be battery related, then all the other faults appearing suggest battery as well.

Might be worth trying to turn it over on the crank pulley....has it got a receipt for a replacement oil pump?

Plus 1 in wasted money , time for a new mechanic as surely he should have known straight away to cover the basics, ie fully charged battery and then go from there

Sadly see this too often where some garages / independents go off on a tangent without ensuring basics have been checked first and foremost
 
First point of call this morning is a battery πŸ”‹

Personally I got my new battery from Halfords , yuasa 019 with a 5 x year warrenty , u should read a minimum of around 12.6Vdc with the engine off , 14.5Vdc engine running

Before that I got mine online but alas when I had an issue with my old exide battery they wanted me to send it back, couldn’t find any couriers to accept it being a lead acid battery

Indeed give the battery a full charge overnight before fitting , plus if u have any problems it’s considerably easier to get it tested and changed if faulty from a local shop

At least then u know ur battery is 100% ok as these motors are very power hungry , think with these a battery charger, multimeter and diagnostics are a must as they pay for themselves very quickly along with the convenience having ur own , CTEK battery chargers have a good reputation

Ps, may I plse add and nothing to do with ur current issues , double check to ensure ur oil pump has been replaced with the upgraded one , particularly on a 2007 , the new oil pump has a reinforced casing

Sourcing a battery first thing, it actually started this morning surprisingly however it's making some strange noises from the air suspension, hazards are continuously flashing, wipers going and parking break fault I'm hoping these are combated with the new battery πŸ™

A weak battery can cause havoc , fingers crossed that resolves the issues ur having

A neighbour has come with a battery tester, tested the batter that is on at the moment at 800ah and the battery is showing OK 12.75v so I'm unsure if it's now a battery or something else now to add it hasnt started back up πŸ™ˆ I'm at a complete crossroads with this now.

Not wishing to sound rude to ur neighbour but plse pop to ur local Halfords to get it retested , indeed it’s not just the standing Voltage but cold cranking Vdc as well, maybe a few of the cells have died ?

Also assume the battery posts are nice and clean, U can start going down a rabbit hole as this needs to be ruled out to ensure it’s 100%

As Gary said, you need to know voltage drop whilst cranking. Imagine just as the engine starts, all the systems go thru a self check, if they can't get enough voltage you end up with all sorts of issues. Get battery drop tested properly, not sure but it doesn't want to drop more than 11.7v WHILST CRANKING. @gstuart will be able to advise exact voltages you want to be seeing and when

Went to halfords got the battery you recommended it was on 75% off the shelf so charged it up to 100% fit it and it won't start it's like a humming coming from underneath the bonnet and a clicking at the ignition as if it now isn't registering the key

If the battery has stood overnight and is showing 12.75v then it is most likely shagged.
12.60v is good, 12.00v is fecked.
 
I've just bought a brand new battery and charged it up to 100% still no joy
Iirc the black plastic on the battery positive lead has a fuse in it, Iirc there is one on the gearbox as well?

Earth strap okay?

Can you tell where the humming is coming from?
 
Literally at my whits end πŸ™ˆ is anyone local to south shields (newcastle) or know a reputable mechanic near my location I feel like towing into the street and leaving it there codes have been cleared and new ones are arising every time I'm trying something
