Hi,

Bought a 97 diesel P38 last year after my MG ZT got stuck on a grass verge and had to be pulled off by my daughters little Peugot!

Shortly afterwards we moved to a house down a steep farm drive and got snowed in for 3 days. I thought "enough is enough !" - and bought the Range Rover. I'm still waiting for the snow so I can justify owning such a troublesome vehicle. I've had the hot starting problem, air pump, air springs, electrics, steering box etc, etc but still thought it would prove itself once the snow came.

I,ve just reversed up outside the house on the sodden grass and mud and the drivers front wheel spins and also the passenger back one - and I stay in the same place like a lemon! Same going forwards - lots of spin no drive! I've tried it in high and low mode but still the same. Any advice will be appreciated. If you say my 4x4 naffed - then this things history. Shame because I like the thing even though it's crap!

Kevin

PS.

There's no weird noises, warning lights etc coming from the thing!

hah ive read how to use my diff lock H reg 110, me old mans diff lock M reg disco and I found me series didnt have any locks not even on the doors. But now i look..........i look silly!  :(
But in me defence I dont get to play with these spangly new motors!

(theory was right tho....)
Im still digging

That is the one situation where you will lose traction - one front wheel and one rear wheel spinning - because you don't have rear traction control even the drive is transferred to both axles but is lost thru each of the spinning wheels.

So its not broken, just ineffective. What tyres do you have on it?

Grabbers and Pirelli Scorpions. Maybe not the best mix but I thought Range Rovers were capable of a lot more. Thanks for your intelligent and helpfull answer. Very much appreciated!

Unfortunately wet grass can be very embarrassing if you have road biased tyres on as you have just found out !
I take it you don't have traction control fitted ?
Gentle throttle and as high a gear as you can is the only way not to look like a lemon :D
