so after falling for a dodgy sale on ebay a few years ago (when i knew even less about land rovers than i do now) i am going to need to q plate my 90 if i want to keep it and make it legit - it isnt exactly what it says on the V5. as Storm pointed out to me after i got it - dont get many 1975 90's.

has anyone been through this process and can give me a few tips? i dont really know where to start or what i need to be able to provide. the 90 is currently stripped down so any parts can be inspected but will they want receipts etc?

also, any idea of the chances i will actually be able to keep it? the seller seemed legit and i picked it up from his house - he was convinced, as was i that it had been rebuilt and updated. could this be the case or is it likely something more sinister and how would i find out?

Has some body told you it needs Q plating? Does the chassis number on the logbook match the number on the chassis?

The chassis/ Vin number is the identity of the vehicle. Whatever that number is, is what the vehicle is (unless tampered with). Things get confusing with pre SVA vehicles that were modified before The SVA legislation came into effect in '96 (I think). Before that date, could well be just another series hybrid. The problem you have is proof of when mods were done. Ebadger (Steve) on here is very knowledgeable on the subject. However, if the chassis turns out to be stolen you may well lose the vehicle! I would start by checking the chassis number matches what is on the V5 before spending any money on it!! At least you know the address of the previous owner (if he still lives there) so if it is found to be stolen, you can pursue him for what you paid for it. If done pre SVA it may well be fine. If not, and assuming it's not stolen, then Dvla will want to do a Vehicle identity check, then it will need an SVA/IVA. Yes receipts are generally wanted for all the bits if YOU built it. Not sure what to advise as you have bought the vehicle complete. Hope this helps and maybe someone with more knowledge than me might be along in a bit...

definitely get the chassis number checked before u throw money at it, there is no reason to utilise a 1975 reg unless trying to hide its true identity.... its not old enough to make the id tax exempt so very strange...

as stated it needs to have been built pre 1996 and you need to be able to prove it, if they cant determine its true id (if the chassis number / engine / axle numbers all mysteriously vanished) then it will need to go for an iva and they will either q plate or plate it based on the age of the main parts
