and had a sucess. If so what is it like. Better Worse. I would like to know or do you know of a better Substitute for the old 4cyl Diesel which has a improvment all round or easyer way round the high fuel consumption. Cheers Dan.

P.S. This is to Teflon I have already read your website and it was great but I am still after other input aswell. I was up till 4am reading it. Good work and alot of time you must have spent on it. It is appreciated.

BIG CHEERS TO TEFLON

Superb engine, the Prima. Will go on for miles and miles. In a Series it drives better on road but not that torquey off road, It will also do about 35mpg in a Landy. Water pumps can leak and they are a pain as they are part of the engine & you need to take the cambelt off and everything.

Head gaskets are a weak point as after so many years corrosion can affect the gaskets (how old is the youngest engine going to be? 10 years?) Also, although I have never looked, I suspect there will be a gap around the Sherpa starter motor letting water into the bell housing.

Not a bad conversion if you do a lot of road miles, and the engine is cheap. The conversion plates and everytjing else adds to the cost though. A Landy 2.5 Diesel or even the TD is a better bet though, and easier to do.

;) I have an early Lightweight that has a 2.5 diesel Land Rover engine fiited. It was already fitted when I bought it but the conversion works very well. I wouldn`t say it makes a huge difference in power or speed but the torque is moe than enough.

Actually, strictly speaking its not a LR engine it came from a sherpa van - how do you tell - the cover plate over the cam belt is tin on a sherpa engine and alloy on a Landy. A point to note is that with a sherpa engine you don`t need to hack the battery tray about to get the engine to fit!

Other than that the engines are pretty much the same although the sherpa cam belt is either one tooth longer, or was it shorter? Power characteristics are the same though.

Now I just need to find an overdrive or a set of Range Rover diffs........

Good luck

Eddy

:) hi i have just completed this conversion on my series 3 and wow what a difference much better mpg i would say more than 35 to gallon speed of about 75/80 lovely heaters only thing i would likr to do now is find out if a defender box would fit for the 5 speed would make it even better i must add that a standard engine may not give this performance as i have modified the turbo system to include an intercooler ,it wasn't a difficult swap as i used the full kit from dudleigh conversions ,go for it

A defender box will fit to the engine but as for fitting in the seres....err NO...it can be made to fit but ya best staying with the series mate.....spend £100 and fit some 90 diffs or spend £250 and buy a overdrive....:D

I fit 90 diffs in my old series and what a difference....top mpg....brill

I we can have a go eh grunt the ****.

Tdi is fit and running.....seems like alot of turbo lag on it tho.... Maybe ya just got to drive it different...lol FASTER....:D
