Currently own a Freelander 1 facelift.
I am trying to fix once and forall the Headunit or the amp (Becker Harmon Kardon )
The sound is terrible , tinny , I have looked at the door speakers on on one door too see if there is corrossion . There was a little so cleaned up and reassembled. All door speakers work as does the woofer in the boot but the overall sound is high pitched. The head unit illumination flickers a little while on, so I'm thinking its that to blame , but cant decide how I can prove it without buying an aftermarket HD and trying that then finding out its the amp to blame.
What is the best course of action to resolve my issue please.

it might be connection on the amp as LR know it is the fault of the wiring cheap Chinese stuff they said they never had a problem when it was made in England now they have all sorts

Thanks, without looking at the moment is the amp under the passenger seat for instance?
I note the door speaker that I had off to check was made in the uk at least.

Yes under passenger seat. The 6cd changer is under the drivers seat.

Didnt know I had a CD changer lol!
Its her car , so she may not know either , I,'ll have to look tonight!

Had a look at amp and to be honest there doesn't seem to be any life in it , no lights etc .
So maybe either there shouldn't be or its not being energised by the head unit.I checked the audio system fuse and fuse of course ok from battery. Perhaps my next move is to drop the amp unit and remove the plug while running ?
I know this might not be wise , but can it do more harm, it will just cut the feed to the speakers , but doesn't prove anything . Perhaps I should see if any power is there while plugged , any ideas welcome.
