Hello, looking for some advice, so here is the problem(s)
Rear fuel pump packed up so we replaced with a new one, new filter and decided that the earth lead might be better off by attaching to the body, (after reading some people had troubles)
also changed the air intake pipes, got some new blue ones as the original ones were a bit soft and were on their way out, put a blob of glue on the top of the sharp nasty sharp corner.
For a long time its been a pig to start and seemed to be better if I turned the key, left on the rear pump prime the motor before starting, what seemed to happen was it would start run or a second or two then cut out, some times i was having to turn it over many many times before she would run, generally once running she was fine, now on the motorway from 80mph it just lost power and basically dropped down to 1000 revs, i pulled over turned her off, waited a bit, then re started her, revved her up and you could hear the motor clear and accelerate ok, i pulled off the hard shoulder, drove a few more miles and it done the same thing, this time it would not clear, and she stayed ticking over at 1000 revs, when pressing the pedal, the motor would dip slightly, pick up to 1000 rpm and stay there, now and again, she would rev to 3000 rpm max, but very lumpy, i managed to gently lift the clutch and crawl up the hard shoulder, i tried dis connecting the mass air flow meter but this changed nothing, I have no fault light appearing on the dash, I am thinking the fuel filter under the rocker cover needs changing, this will be done on the weekend, if this works, great, but i am not convinced a filter will make magic!! can the fuel pump in the engine compartment be pressure tested? could this be injectors? the car is currently at a local garage in France, who don't know what the problem is, so i will go and bring her home. awaiting your advice, Thanks for taking the time to reply

sounds as though you are picking up debris out of the tank when my first freelander TD4 broke down and came to a stop I got it recovered and taking the pump out of the tank I could not believe what was in there I cleaned it out and a new pump and all was well .

Thanks, dont suppose it can hurt to clean the fuel tank then work up the lines! i have asked the garage to clean this and see what happens from here

Sounds like low fuel pressure to me. You need to get a diagnostic on it before pulling stuff to bit for random cleaning. You need to check the low pressure fuel supply pressure and the high pressure fuel pump too. Both need to be within spec, or it'll never run correctly.

Not sure if yours if yours is covered by Rave , As I cannot see the MY written anywhere.

But there is a section for it in there.

Cheers

ok,
i will get them to do a test on both pumps, does any one know the correct pressure for each
At idle. The low pressure pump should be over 350Kpa. The high pressure pump should show over 26,000Kpa.
The starting and poor running could be down to many things. However the high pressure fuel pump regulator O ring is a common failure and cheap to fix.
