I sell plenty of line-lock valves to the motorsport world and they work
very well BUT if this is to be for road use you must have them on a seperate
hydraulic system to the footbrakes which makes it a major ( too much to be
worth it ) operation. The MOT states that the parking brake should be fully
independant of the braking system....
If you just want one as an extra ( very effective ) handbrake or if the MOT
does not effect you then I will happily sell you one!

Sorry but hydraulic handbrakes are only permitted on
pre 1968 vehicles
so not on a Rangie I'm afraid
Unless is as an addition and not a replacement

Do you mean in addition to a foot bake or instead?

Can't find any specific mention in the book about them
Unless they come under 'Hand operated brake control valves'
which "applies to all vehicles with a secondary brake operating
mechanism in addition or in place of the normal parking brake
lever"
In which case basically they must work and be in good condition
So it's probably down to the testers interpretation again

Not legal for road use -- agricultural tractors have them, but you're
supposed to lock the pedals together before going on the road. And they
don't come under an MOT anyway.

Nothing, AFAICS. Tiggrr passed with 'em fitted, and given the length of the
levers they are bloody obvious. Theye weren't even tested, so "if it's
fitted it must work" doesn't apply. I couldn't see any reference to them in
the tester's manual when I was getting the trialler road legal, so I guess
the rules that apply to the plastic hippo on the roof apply to fiddles too.
Not in the scope of the legislation. ;-)

the MOT states that you cannot have a hydraulic handbrake at all, whether or
not it is a separate system.

How about a small self-adjusting mechanically operated disc brake in place
of the handbrake drum?
small diameter disc in where the drum usually is, with a caliper to the
side.
it'd be lighter, unlikely to get clobbered when offroading and easier to
service.
Dunno if anyone makes 'em, just an idea...

If you clobber the handbrake when off-roading, you're doing something
extra-specially esoteric, it's up in between the chassis rails.
