Hi all, I'm Mike. I live near Frome, Somerset. We have a Freelander TD4 so far, getting a Disco 3 TDV6 soon, and thinking of a Defender 300 Tdi for doing a Cape to Cairo if the world gets a little less bonkers next year. Learning the basics by using the td4 for tinkering, and going to need a lot more experience by then. Total newbie to mechanics and learning lots about the td4 the hard way. Sunroof, soggy boot, tailgate lock, turbo lag, downshift judder. Trawling the posts here every evening to decide on this weekend's spanner job! Thanks all for the massive bank of greasy tips.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you're going to have your work cut out and lots to learn. The Cape to Cairo sounds great.

If buying a Disco 3 or 4 it would be a wise decision to have a good look through the disco section on ere for typical faults. Start with cranks snapping...

Hi and welcome!

Somerset- god’s own county!:)

The cape to Cairo challenge sounds great. Let us know how you get on.

A welcome from Norfolk, that's a nice area and I've been that way many times, as one set of grandparents lived just down the road at Maiden Bradley..
