Hello guys, hope everyones all good, wondering if ayone could help,

My front riverside halfshaft snapped near the flange, ive stripped it all down and have removed the half shaft which is 24 spline at the flange end so i went out and bought a new one but it came 24 spline at either end, but my old one is 10 spline diff end, apparnetl ythe 24 at either end is the only one they do.... SO i figured i could split the two in half and join the old to new if you get me.. A) will this work? and b) how do you split the cv's apart? ive given it a go with a hammer but it wouldnt come off?

Any ideas?

Thanks

halfshaft has a spring type ring on the end it will tap off use a copper hammer or similar ,theres a choice of cvs for 10 spline diffs 23 splines were it goes in cv aeu2522 or 33 splines were shaft goes in cv rtc6862

There's a good write up in Busterbus's photo montage fings - helped me no end when I did mine. Although when I tried to separate my CVs and halfshafts I ended up smashing the CV to pieces. Pro'ly cheaper and as well to get a new one.

These situations I always like to plug mailorder4x4 - they really seem to know their stuff. Tell 'em Dom sent yas! Good luck.

Ok, so i seprated the cv,. All well and good.. But how the hell do i re fit it.. I mean the circlip on the inside- how could i possibly go about puttin that back on?!

its not a circlip its a spring clip you hold cv upwards engage half shaft press clip in often two screw drivers are necessary and tap half shaft down once clips in all the way around

Sorry james, not sure i quite understand- so i hammered the cv off the shaft so now im lef with the cv end that goes to the diff which i need to put onto the new part that comes out the flange. How do i go about putting the clip if once ive inserted it into the hole in the ball bearing bit it is obviously hidden away in the inside of the cv?

fit clip to half shaft and engage shaft into cv press clip in to start it with screw drivers then tap shaft in fully

I knew someone would post that link to me, if you read what i have posted and then read that tutorial (which i have hundreds of times) it doesnt actually show or answer what i need.. but thanks for your time anyway..

Which side of Cirencester are you? For the damage you may cause knocking the new one apart and trying to reconnect it to the old one, you may be better sending it back and getting the correct one from Tim Fry in Cheltenham. They aren't the cheapest but they keep a good stock of parts on the shelf

When im down in cirencester im normally 2 mins from the centre, but undortunatly im up near cambridge atm..

Looks like tae me that ye missed the bit where ah said aboot fitting the wee ring and carefully chapping the shaft back intae the cv joint...;)

ok, so buster, ive got a rubber hammer as i dont have a copper hammer, trying to break the new half chaft cv apart so i can put the new end on the old diff end, but cant get it apart, any tips? :(

maybe rubber wasnt the word, its basically a hardened plastic... i just dont wanna damage the cv, it wasnt exactly cheap ;) haha
