Hi, sorry if it's covered before. But my gutless 2001 TD5 Discovery is doing my head in. It's completely flat under 2000rpm and a nightmare to tow with especially on grass. Can I have some advice please and would getting it remapped help. Many Thanks

Hello and welcome.

You would be better posting this in the Disco section.
But as starters go, yes a remap is nice to have on the Td5, but I would suggest getting it on diagnostics and checking if everything is working as it should be. A simple thing is try disconnecting the MAF sensor and taking it for a drive as well.
also try the search function you will find this issue discussed a lot.

Oh, and make sure you have the EKA code.;)

Cheers

Hi, Thank you for replying.
I have tried unplugging the air flow meter. It was a bit lumpy on tick over and went a very very slight bit better but not really that noticeable.

Check all the hoses and pipes for splits, cracks and pinholes ... eggs spushully the thin pipe that goes under the turbo ...

When was it lasted serviced ? It needs to be running at it's very best as is, before any alterations such as a re-map ...

Hi, I have recently bought the car and it was serviced in January.
There is a bit of turbo noise (as in whistle etc) even with the car coming to stop you can hear the turbo.

Is it more a hissing noise than a whistle ?

I would check for:

- split/detached hoses, (air escaping, though usually more of a hiss than a whistle if it happens)...

- blocked air filter or airbox lid not secured down ...

- split or otherwise leaking intercooler, whistle will be air escaping ...

- delaminated turbo hose, (usually the little 90 deg one that comes out of the turbo heading towards the intercooler, looks OK from the outside but a layer peels off the inside and blocks the airflow, you will have to take it off for a look, but only 2 jubilee clips to remove) ...

- damage to the impeller vanes, (take the inlet/outlet hoses off and get a mirror and a torch and see if there is any obvious damage to the vanes)...
