Hi All,

First post so here goes!
When accellerating med-hard, there is a lot of gurgling of water around the dash area, would this be a sign of the water pump not working 100% but kicks in when you boot it? Not a major problem yet, but just sounds weird!

Any thoughts appreciated.

cheers.

Air in the heater matrix by the sounds of it and usually the first sigh of Head Gasket gone.

Try bleeding it out and check your water level.

Thanks for that redhand (I think!), I'll have a go today and report back. Hopefully not the gaskets, but that's the beauty of the LR V8!

Sounds daft I know but have you checked the doors aren't full of water, try taking out the rubber drain bungs in the bottom of the doors - they get blocked and the doors fill up.

How long have your doors been up near the Dash??

gurgling of water around the dash area,

Not quite what I meant red. My Rangie sometimes has funny water type noises and it is because the doors have filled up. I did say it might sound daft, but hey ho!

The water was down maybee 1/2 inch in the tank, removed plug from top of rad and topped up there, cracked off the pipes to the matrix, and bled as much as poss out of there. Going for a run later, so I'll see if it's made any difference. It doesn't seem to make any noise (apart form the twin 4" stainless back box burbling away!!!) when its idling and being booted standing still, so hopefully that's all it is.

Just an update.
It is still gurgling, so I assume that I will ahve to start investigating the head gaskets as I can't find any signs of water loss anywhere else. Any info' welcomed!!!
Cheers.:(

Is it losing water or is it had a leak that's kinda sealed it self for the time-being and now air locked. Or has the water level dropped with no signs of leaking. And welcome to landyzone hope you find this useful.:welcome2:

Thanks for the Welcome:crazy_driver:
It has used about half a pint in 2 weeks with no visible signs of leaks anywhere.
There is a small amount of condensation form the exhaust when cold, but this soon dissapears and there is no further steam etc.
I will have to look at it closer at the weekend when the weather is a bit dryer!
I can't think it's air locked as the heater is warming up in good time and no overheating prob's. It sounds like the water is cavitating in the pump which is why i was wondering if the impellers might be worn??
It's going to be a head scratcher for now!

I believe ClassicKev has been as deep as his dash at least once in Standon!! The damn V8 kept going too! Jai

Ain't that the truth! Kev's V8 thinks its a bloody submarine! I do believe Kev now carries a scuba tank and snorkel as part of his standard laning kit!:D

I think you must be right. Spoke to someone else today with one and it did it too. I have flushed the matrix now, added K-Seal and now no loss of water at all! It is still gurgling when you boot it a bit. Time to give in and just enjoy driving it.
Cheers all for the suggestions:5bdriving:

Hi folks. A late addition to this thread which I have just found. Recently re-joined Landyworld with a V8 Disco8 (4.0). Mine has also gurgled from time to time under the dash. Was a bit alarming at first but no leaks found, engine running perfectly etc. Suddenly after about 3000 miles I had an overheat. Stopped immediately & luckily no harm done but the water level needed almost 2 litres ! Unable to find a leak I carried on, did about 15 miles the next day, and the day after that it needed about 1/2 litre to top up again - but no more since for about another 50 miles!! As it was under warranty it went back & had a new top hose (not the cause but a bit soft) and thermostat, and was pressure tested a few times, unable to find any fault they refilled & bled system etc. (they are LR specialists by the way). Now home and still running beautifully - it still gurgles. And the cause of the water loss is still a mystery. I suspect trapped air in the heater matrix, so will carry some water in case of any issues. Hopefully I will do some additional topping up at some stage and the gurgling will go. But not going to worry about it too much. As I now see this gurgling is not unusual (as Tom Jones said).

Sniff test with fluid are crap.

Exhaust gas analyser under bonnet with engine running if hydrocarbons jump over open header tank= head gasket.
Unexplained water loss can be slow start of hgf
