I've recently replaced the transfer box on our 2.4 110 defender, as it was making a grinding noise at high revs when accelerating and it sounded like it was coming from around that area, after having a look under and seeing that some of the seals on the transfer box had gone and it was covered in oil I decided to replace it. I presumed that would sort the grinding noise aswell. But no the noise is still there sounds like it's coming from around the transfer box and gearbox area. Any ideas what this could be, any help is appreciated 👍

As above, seizing UJ's make such noise and a hand brake full of crud the same.
Already taken the handbrake apart and cleaned it out didn't seem to help much, handbrake now works though 😂. I've had a look and the UJs and one of them was a bit seized, cleared it out and that seemed to help but still a bit of play it it. I'm going to replace that UJ today to see if that helps, thanks

gear box output shafts are known to wear. Aftermarket modified shafts are available which are supposed to last longer than the originals. From memory, Ashcroft and LOF do them. (If that turns out to be the issue).

May have to have a look at the out put shaft, as the new universal joints didn't seem to make any difference to the noise, will let you know how I get on with the output shaft. Thanks 👍
