Hi. Picked up a d2 on the weekend. I knew there was a possible issue in the box when I got it. But the guy I got it off seems to be sure it's the bias plate or yoke.

Symptoms:
Slight crunch from 1st into 2nd

Slight crunch from 2nd to 3rd

Down changing from 4th to 3rd and then to 2nd is next to impossible unless you match revs, otherwise it just grinds.

Sat stationary..if I press the clutch and try to select a gear straight away, it gives a little crunch on the way in. If I press the clutch and wait 3/4 seconds then go for the gear it goes straight in.

The box has now become incredibly stiff. Can't get it into 1st/5th. Wiggling the gear stick side to side in neutral is a 2 arm job!

I feel like it is the baulk rings or something in the box? As I said the guy seems sure it's the bias plate alignment or yoke. One of the springs on the bias plate is broken. But I don't believe this is the cause.

From my POV , would only ask, can you see if you can lubricate the mechanism with some WD40, and is it worth changing / topping up the gearbox oil?

Thanks mate. I will have a go. I stripped it down to look at the bias plate today so will have a go in the morning. Apparently the box oil was done very recently..and it is completely dry. May be worth doing though. If it was changed so recently I would expect to see a dribble from the filler/level plug! But it's all dry. Might be worth a look. Thanks fella

grinding is worn baulk rings nothing to do with bias plate that is only to locate gear stick to align with 3rd and 4th so you can find them a broken bias plate gives a gear stick that flops to either side easily and 3rd 4th become difficult to find ,it can also jam selection of some as the tab that broke off jams the stick or can do,though youve more than a baulk ring issue,gear stick not going to either side easily is a yoke or more serious alignment issue due to heavy wear in the box

Hard gear selection can sometimes be due to use of too high viscosity gear oil in the gearbox, and with the cold temperatures heavy oil is just hard to move.

Thanks for that..it wouldn't explain the gear crunch though. Might make for a clunky change...or a "tight" box.
