New to this forum, so greetings from sunny Roslin - think Da Vinci...-
recently sold my old faithful K Plate 200 series Disco, now replaced with a 5-dr 98 Freelander XEDi, currently in the process of being overhauled.

I'm looking for advice re -
  1. window regulator cables, nearside one snapped, probably ages ago - can the cable be sourced individually? - regulator motor works fine, all other wearing bits cleaned up OK. Has anyone tried using other cables, like motorcycle clutch/throttle ones? is there anything else that would fit. The 'snap' on a moving area so a weld/electrical connector would snag. I see that most scrappyards Freelanders have already had the n/s regulators removed, so I'm guessing this is a known fault. Would the offside cables be the same lengths?
  2. sunroof - similar problem, but as yet I haven't got round to removing the headlining to check exactly what's gone wrong. Is there a quick way into the gubbins?
  3. Diff mountings - seem worn - can they be replaced without removing the diff completely. Is there an easy way to do this job, & if anyone has hints/tips/photos of similar work in progress I'd be grateful.
My other cars an original Smart - easier to park in Cities, but not as good off-road! My usual sunny day transport is a classic '91 Kawasaki 500.
Old is gold! a bit like Landy's!.

Cheers

Thanks for the PM Mondo,
I'd had a look at various threads re the problems, but they don't have exactly what I was after for the issues detailed.
I've scavenged a brake cable from a mountain bike to replace the broken window actuator cable, and will use a cut down electrical connector from a terminal block as a terminal clamp, with additional solder.
One of the cables has become tangled badly and is likely to snap when used, and it's overall length is, typically, 6" longer than I have available. D'oh! I'll try and get a suitable length from a bike repair shop, along with clamps etc. The bike cable is slightly thicker than the LR cable but runs in the guides OK. I'll get the exact measurements and photo the sequence.

I've seen the various sunroof threads and that'll help when I get into that area, but I'll leave that for a rainy weekend when the Hibs are playing away!. (Big garage & season ticket!)

The diff mountings look straightforwards, but that's usually not a good sign! There's nothing I could find on the threads, here or elsewhere on Landy sites..
Parts look to cost about £80 or so, but no 1 daughter has a car mechanic boyfriend, so I'll ask him to get the parts via the trade, and help with the fix. Again, I'll photo the routine and post on this site if I can.

Cheers

Glenn
