Going out alone is a really silly idea. There are a few experienced green laners on here who carry all manner of recovery kit and even they tend to go with a friend if possible. My personal experience is that if you go out on a lane you may well get stuck... if you are alone and have little experience you could be there for a long time!
Jai's comments are spot on... PM spyderman who is out in your neck of the woods this weekend. Make sure you have recovery points front and rear (not tie down points).
My own experience of ramblers is that while some of them are not too pleased to see us, many are just as polite and courteous as we are. They expect us to be foul mouthed and aggressive, but once they realise that this is not the case they are usually OK.
Remember that even green lanes that are suitable for driving alone (many have been resurfaced in Hertfordshire during the last two years), you can still get a puncture or suffer a mechanical failure. This is a pain at the side of the road of course... but it is a real problem in the middle of a lane where there may not be firm enough ground to lift the vehicle.
finally... CharlesY suggests that there should be a fair few of you, and to a point I agree. However, the optimum number of vehicles is about 4 (my opinion only). More that this can cause problems if you have to turn around and abandon a lane, and a huge stream of vehicles is generally frowned upon in any case.
I could ramble on for a while but you get the drift!
