had started to notice recently that my brakes have been pulling to the right, no great problem had planned in this afternoon to see about adjusting/checking them. only on my way home from work i found myself haveing to do an emergency stop only to find the steering wheel wrenched from my hands as my landy proceeded to cross all three lanes of the M27!!!! a brown trouser moment! after crawling home igot it up on axle stands removed the front passenger wheel and hub to find that my brake shoes look more like sticky toffee pudding than anything that might stop a 2 tonne landy!! I presume that this is oil from the axle and that my oil seal has gone.
now, looking on paddocks it doesnt make it entirely clear which seal this is, the descriptions in haynes dont correlate to the descriptions on paddocks, any ideas????
i presume people here have replaced these oil seals before, it looks like you have to remove the inner bearings to get to it, is this an easy job to remove undamaged or should i get some new bearings while i am at it?

cheers for the reply, had a look for the bearing kits but they only seem to be available for post 1980 sIII's, i was having a look at changing the bearings at the same time, just because i have to remove them to get to the oil seal, i havent got any play though from the front end so dont really want to spend money on stuff that isnt neccesary (the wife and 3 kids are restricting the landrover fund!) so can i just get away with changing the seals in which case am i going to need a bearing puller to get the bearings out without damage or can they be `persuaded` out with something easy to hand (hammer/lump of wood)?

cheers
