I'm replying to myself! Nobody to talk to at Land's End except goats and emmits - that's a Cornish holidaymaker!
Can anyone explain to me why the simple task of undoing a top hose (to shove in a thermostat) has become a living nightmare of complete impossibility wrapped up in a fury making desire to drive this thing over the nearest cliff or into the nearest mine-shaft??! Impossible to get to, impossible to look at and the clip has no known end to unscrew or prize off. Don't want to dremel it off in case I ruin the hose and am stuck here in my field for ever more! It's a td4. PLEASE HELP!

Doesn't the top hose have a quick-release coupling near the engine? Take off the intake plenum and intake manifold and it should be there.

Also, I see there are very few views for this thread - your title, though jaunty, isn't really one that'll attract attention. If you'd put 'Td4 Can't remove top rad hose' you might have had more interest.

Many thanks for your help - I need to source a manual - as I said, paid for one which won't down-load!

Manual - pah!

Intake plenum - remove three jubilee clips, hoses and two retaining screws. Free from harness in top right and pull away.

Manifold - undo row of 10mm bolts, then row of 11mm below. Unclip MAP sensor LHS and free pipe and harness from same location. Free EGR vac hose. Remove.

I think that's everything. Common sense applies here!
