Good evening all, thank you for letting me join this group.
Firstly let me tell you a little about myself, I've had a few 4x4's in the past but never the green oval 1's. This past is a little dubious with a frontera and Subaru and more than a few Mitsubishi's of which I am currently running a 3.0 v6 complete with body and suspension lift copper stt, winch bumper and winch, I'm looking at changing over to a td5 as the shogun is a little too extreme for the gaffer indoors to drive, also I want something a little my comfy to use to and from work and obviously the occasional green laning.
So I will be scouting around probably asking a lot a stupid questions but mostly reading reviews and recommendations so I'll say hello!! Anyway I've gone on enough thanks again cheers.

Hi m8 welcome land-rover are labour of love get a old one and your always be working on it get a newish one it will spend time in the garage
I know that's strange coming from a landynut but it's true I would not change that for nowt
Just be aware wot your getting into

Cheers mate, I know the risks but I like to be kept on my toes.
To be honest that is also why I've joined here, so I can do some research, at least I will know all the problems that come with it.

Hello and Welcome,

So are you looking for a Disco or a defender? I assume as you mentioned comfort then it would probably be a Disco. With the Disco make sure you know what ignition warning lights should show up during the self check. It is not unknown for dodgy sellers to have blacked out a warning light so it does not show up.
Also try to get one with two working key fobs and the EKA code. Plus there are all the other issues that you will find by searching on here about buying one of these.

Good luck.

Yes it's the disco I'm after, newbie question tho I've been reading through and I not sure what some of the abbreviations are? E.g
Ace
Eka
What are people's thoughts on the td5? I think I'm looking towards the 15P engine which I've been told is the better engine, I understand that these are only in the later td5's 2002+. Cheers for any advice received

Eka code is used to disable immobiliser via the key ace I think is active cornering something expensive if it goes wrong I think

The TD5 engine is fabulous if maintained well, however, mine needed its head replacing as diesel was getting back into the oil. I don't know the technical term for this fault, but you can check it by looking at the oil dipstick and seeing if its less viscous (it will have diesel in ). If you come across a dodgy seller, they could have just changed the oil recently, in which case you won't know. From what I understand the pre-facelift TD5s were less likely to have this fault that the facelift models. The reason being the TD5 had to meet later more stricter emissions regulations for which the pressures in the engine needed uprating (i don't know which) and this increased the likelihood fo the fault developing,

ACE is active cornering enhancement, which is a hydraulic system to counter body roll in corners. It works very well, rarely goes wrong, if it does it can be expensive (or you can remove it and fit an antiroll bar kit for 200 quid or so).

I wish I kept my D2, it was a great car! The traction control was superb...I did some serious off roading in Romania with it and it kept up with pimped up Nissan Patrols running 3 diff locks.
