evening. my 1998 4.6 HSE seems to have, what i can only describe as copper/brass/gold colored flecks in the coolent expansion tank.

your thoughts............

Sounds like somebody had a coolant leak at some time and has dosed the system with Barrs/Radweld or K-seal. Sounds like you need to be keeping an eye on coolant level, temp gauge and any wet patches on the engine or underneath it.

waterpump started leaking on a test drive, had a new one fitted the morning i picked it up.
it was there then, i've only just got around to mentioning it.

cheers.

Sounds like k-seal or the like TBH, or Someones added Goldschlager instead of antifreeze ?
god i remember that stuff. drinking flakes of gold, in a god awfull flavored liquid! yummy....NOT

speaking of antifreeze, i dont think my system is dosed, if it is its only half done as i doubt it was done when the waterpump was changed. is it ok to use any antifreeze in the p38?

You should use the OAT coolant on a 50/50 mix. The anti-corrosive properties are probably more important than the anti-freeze side, as the steel liners will rust and start to break out of the alloy casting if you don't use it.
