Right then, need some opinions. Taking a trip to France with the wife, the child and the Great Dane! Been looking into roof boxes and those safari style roof racks. Could anyone recommend either or give me some positives and negatives!

And please don't say fly instead!!!:D

That swould depend on what's going in the roof box, the wife, the child or the Great Dane.

Thule are about the best, but as the market leader they are relatively expensive, plus you'll need cross-bars on the roof to support it.

Note that there is a 75kg max weight limit for roof-mounted gear.

bike rack is ok. roof racks are noisy. trailer cumbersome. D2 carries a lot of cargo , lighten load.

I had not taken into account the 75kg limit. I think I'll go for a roof box. Thanks for all your comments and suggestions.

The thule roof boxes are good. Just dont get the halfrauds aerodynamic bars as they only attach to the forward roof bars on my disco 2 td5 & are then a pain to reach anything in the box, as well as attaching/removing it from the roof.
