Finished the third of our trio of winter lane clearances in Wiltshire on Sunday. Even had time to drive a few lanes afterwards!

They have done a lot of good work down that way this Year. Nice to see a CC that is prepared to work with them and allow this sort fo thing to happen.

Yeah, I'm hoping to start adding some of the work we do all over. Obviously some areas get more work than others, My area for instance doesn't get a lot, simply 'cos it doesn't need it much!, not 'cos I don't want to, so I go and help in other areas or stand on the Glass stand at some shows.

Not surprising that they do a lot of voluntary work down there, considering how many lanes they have in Wiltshire and the way some of them have overgrown, Nice scratchy lanes some of them . I would be surprised if the CC did not take the opportunity of help from an outside source. Seems some of the other local CC are not interested in help from an outside source.

So you going to be at Billing on the stand this year? If so I will say hello on the way to the beer tent, even though that will require me to take a detour ...LOL.

Dorset Glass were also active this w/e

Today five members of the Dorset Greenlane Association voluntarily dealt with a rather large tree which had been completely blocking the popular Jubilee Trail near Moreton.
The lane had been blocked for six weeks, which we felt was quite long enough so ‘covert ops’ were deployed and we have sorted it out ourselves.
After three hours hard graft we are pleased to declare that this route is now clear and open for all users to enjoy again.
Special thanks (and in no particular order) go to Steve Fall Craig Mellor Mervyn Taylor and Michael Winter for their efforts.

Those of you who attended the recent public inquiry or followed the thread on here about Back Lane at Two Dales, will be pleased to learn that the planning inspector has issued her decision on the future status of the lane, and has determined that it should be part Byway Open to All Traffic (BOAT) and part public road. This confirms that GLASS and PDVUG's position at the Inquiry was correct and overturns the rather strange Derbyshire County Council proposal for bridleway on the southern end of the lane. It also frustrates the misguided efforts of the anti-motoring lobbyists who wanted the whole length of Back Lane to be downgraded to a bridlepath.
We believe that common sense has prevailed - after all, why should an adopted road which has been partially tarmacked by DCC be classified as a bridleway? Why would a bridleway have a cattle grid? Perhaps the fanatics who keep objecting to BOAT claims in Derbyshire will think twice in future and refrain from embarrassing themselves in further unnecessary public inquiries. We can but hope.
Meanwhile, the Council need to recognise their duty to repair the bottom end of the lane to a standard suitable for a byway. In the meantime we recommend 4x4 users should enter/exit Back Lane via Butchers Lane rather than risking damage to your vehicle in the washed out section at the southern end."

My personal viewpoint .... This is a great lane which I usually leave out of Bakewell Bash planning, it's too gnarly and very scratchy almost all year, but despite these challenges at one end, the other end is quite nice too .. It's a good 'victory' for us as 'everyone' wanted it shut to 4x4's, with no reason really 'cos it washes out through bad drainage, not vehicular use and damage, parts have been tarmacced, and parts are concreted, and it's effectively on the side of a hill, so there's a fair amount of water runoff that can go nowhere other than along the lane.
PS .. the washout is a very challenging drive, over 40 degrees slope, trees and hawthorn one side with a wall the other so very tight and can be awkward to negotiate if rocks have washed down .... I love it!

Watch out for the H&S Police with the tree work photos.

Those Ferns on the righthand side as you look at the pic are overhanging the wall ... In my view it doesn't need repairing ... but then I don't have a shiny ..;)

Sorry I was mentioning these stout looking fellas.....I have every respect for what they are doing but ideally should have PPE for operating on a byway...plus public liability....

Would you have a method statement for removal of branches & foliage of a highway?

Only asking as all the recent lanes i have on I been removing foliage with my paint work it's been that tight

I used to live in Devon and regularly pin striped my 110, these days I have a shinier one so I am a bit fussier where I take it. With regard to the above sorry I wasn't meaning to be a nob just aware that there could be issues with using chainsaws in a public place without correct ppe etc. Not saying not to do it just everyone can see if its on the internet.
 
Most councils will permit clearance days but you can only use hand tools.
I know what you mean about what can be dragged up off the net if there is a problem later on . ;)
 
not sure how much of a problem that is? if the public arent anywhere near, or if work stops if any public wish to traverse the said lane?
