is it beneficial taking a generator for a overland trip or is the weight make it negligible.

I never planned to bring one but my brother saying it would be good for emergencies

I've not known anyone take one with them on my couple of trips, if your travelling alone I suggest taking anything that will get you out of the poop.

I can't think of any situation that would warrant taking a gennie with you across morocco. Duel batteries with a split charge system might be useful but even then if you have a good battery I think you can manage without. When we did our trip we took loads of stuff that we never needed. You don't mention if your going in a group or solo. Even going solo I wouldn't bother with a gennie. If going solo a winch would be of more use.

The above might give you some ideas.

If he's worrying he's not going to enjoy it. It's an adventure. If your lucky a fuse or bulb might blow other than that if it goes tits up, the morrocans are use to it and will get you right or buy it of him.
Genie Hallalujah.

Most solo, part group. I'm going from 7th October until latest 3rd November

I do some stuff with a guy who takes a gennie to power a microwave. He's weird. Unless that's your plan I wouldn't bother.

Seems like a waste of time. You are never that far from civilisation that would require generating power. If you really need power get a tow from someone to somewhere that has it and the facilities that having power would require. It'll just be adding more weight to your vehicle.

...didn't make it back, I reckon. Probably took that gennie and the extra weight broke his back. ;)
