has anyone fitted gems into anything else..

having a cooling issue..

its fitted with feck off rad, which is working, but its the heater..no coolent flow..YES it could just be air locked but dont think so as removed pipe and coolent there..

i have connected top rad hose to manifold outlet, lower rad pipe to water pump..this flows great.
heater pies..one conected to manifold pipe that goes under manifold and exits at front, other to other manifold pipe (both 5/8)

NOW as this is gems it had fandango pipe setup with remote mounted stat, this is now in head ala classic (74c)

i am wondering if i need to plumb heater pipes elsewhere, prehaps one from manifold and return into bottom hose??if so what to do with spare 5/8 port on manifold..
REALLY dont want to feck up water circulation in head etc...cos that would be death to engine!

thoughts please..

Does it have a helper pump when fitted in the P38 ?

Some cars have helper pumps on the heater matrix, my golf for example

looking at rave, it seems to suggest i need to conect return from heater to bottom hose/inlet of water pump and also one of the pipes from head..i think the one that runs under manifold..

where do the classic v8 engine heater pipes go to on the block?

inlet manifold was the return on my flapper engine, went out the back of the water pump under manifold, into matrix, back out of matrix and under the manifold back to pump

You've contradicted yourself there?

You say the return was the inlet manifold first, then you say back out of matrix and under the manifold to the pump. :p

Mostly correct though! ;)

A pipe comes out of back of the water pump, up and over the manifold into the matrix. Another pipe from just underneath the thermostat goes to the matrix following a the same path to the pipe out the water pump, but instead of going into the water pump it has the pipe going into the inlet manifold, just under where the thermostat is. So I'm guessing hot water coming out around the thermostat goes into the matrix, then out the matrix back into the water pump as its been cooled slightly from the heater matrix.

zen, do you want me to get some pictures?

found some...

In this one you can just see the rubber hoses, jubilee clips and the copper pipes which I made up with the bleeder on top. Please excuse the mess of wires, pipes etc... this was a couple of months after I got it.

Hmm mine didn't there were two pipes under the manifold nothing over the top.......actually one of them did have the brass pipe on the top of the rocker cover too.

Might have had an early one with a mish mash of carb parts on it as my carb manifold had two pipes under the inlet and the EFI one had two pipes under the manifold plus the brass bleed pipe

My carburettor inlet manifold has two pipes under the inlet. One pipe from around the thermostat and one pipe to the water pump inlet.

Yay pictures!

You can see the pipes match my/your description...

Heh... pictures don't lie. robbh bought your flapper engine right?

If you look carefully the pipes have the same setup where two pipes go over. If you look in his thread, then he just uses some pipe to make a u and joins them together, instead of going to a heater.

Anyway zen... does this answer your question?

No not that flapper, I had another manifold with more hoses on it but that one pictured has two under the inlet plus the brass twin on top from memory

I don't think that inlet manifold has two under the inlet plus the ones on top... because its from the engine you sold robhh... and that inlet manifold from that engine is sat in my shed and I just went out to check it. :D ;)

zen, I think I confused myself... where does what go to from with your heater matrix and inlet manifold???

theres two brass ones together on top then two underneath, I'm pretty sure there is anyway :p

either way I now have no heater hoses on the edelbrock one :D and none on the 500ci

You are correct about the brass pipes on top but not about the two on the bottom. I know because as I said, I've just had a look at it. :p :D

... no heater in the series? What are nuts? (yes)! :D

One from manifold pipe... other to other manifold pipe... PICTURES! Or better description. I don't know the layout of later inlet manifolds and what other pipe goes to other pipe on your setup. :p

well..thanlks for help, shame pics are totally different from gems, but gave me idea along with colent flow diagram i found..

now heater return and pipe from head )o/s) plumbed into lower rad pipe/water pump inlet as below..
