Leaving the selector at 1:D:D

Seriously though it shouldn't. Its got to be an issue with the ECU unless your driveway is near vertical and engine hasn't got the power when cold. The P38 has adaptive change maps to suit conditions but it should still change unless the selector is at 1.
Does it change ok when its warmed up?
Oil level ok?

shhh, i aint let on its the disco.... get better and faster replies on r/r :D... couldnt turn down the £1200 profit on the r/r
 
Only info ive been able to find is it maybe the filter at fault it lets crap through and blocks the govenor in the g/box, i aint gonna worry too much about tbh it drives surperb in all other ways and i aint gonna start messin stripping the g/box apart to av a mess
 
maybe worth serviceing g/box, also try it in gears when its cold see if it will go in second etc or even reverse, thats backwards to you!!!

you have checked the g/box oil when the car is running????

also if the oil is brown/black it could be the wrong type???

failing that scrap it and buy a rr 4.0 petrol, preferably black???

OI , yup checked it running and all is good nice and clean
 
i have hand built my car!!! well hand re-built it after the suckers in the midlands made made cnut of it the first go!
