Hi i am after some ideas and help with reference to a Suffix D SerIII gearbox,
the gearbox has been completely rebuild using new parts , on fitting all forward gears work fine and syncronise perfectly. Reverse gear is my problem it springs out when reversing over any longer distance,i have replace the detent spring with a stronger one and it still springs out of gear. Has anyone any ideas as to what it could be.
This is not my first gearbox that i have rebuild but the first time i have come across this problem
Any help will be well appreciated.

if its going in fully id expect edges of teeth or whole teeth are worn away ,detent springs arent there to hold it in gear ,if idler is worn you can usually expect teeth on layshaft and first/second synchro hub are too

The gear is fully engaging the Reversegear is brandnew as is the the 1/2 syncro hub the lay shaft is also ok , the whole box has maybe done about 10Km after a complete rebuild , could it be the tolerance on the layshaft is not large enough.

I've just rebuilt my gearbox which was jumping out of 1st and reverse. Reverse and 1/2 selector forks were well worn and I replaced the idler gear, layshaft and first gear.
Still haven't put it all together but I hope that will cure it (please god)

right parts used they are several 1/3 synchro hubs new idlers come with straight needle roller bearing original had a slight twist to hold it in gear

****! The idler I put in had straight rollers... In a BL box from 1976 as well according to the packing.
