Right then, ghoing to the show on friday and it jumps out of 2nd. Try to get it back in and it wont engage properly, its as if something is holding th3e gearstick forward of what its meant to do. Holding it back it doesnt crucnch or grind but you can hear a sort of rubbing noise as if its not engaging at all. I dont think its the synchro gone as no bits came out with the oil change 2 weeks ago and if Im correct you'd still be able to get in gear when not moving?

Anyone know what it is? I have a theory it might be an issue with the springs and selector shafts but not sure

But if i stuck a v8 in, it would have had a hissy fit anyway sooner or later :D

I'm just hoping it is the springs as i dont particularly want to take the box out again

jumping out is usually worn dog teeth and excess endfloat with gear ,jamming whilst trying to select would suggest synchro hub issue, if it goes in 1st but not 2nd

Ok cheers James

Is it worth looking at the springs anyway (cheaper bit :D ) before taking the box out or will that not really help at all?

if it goes into first then detents and shaft alignment must be ok

It does go into first but it needs more force on the gearstick than the others (i.e its very stiff to change gear) I dont know if thats anything to do with it or a separate thing alltogether?

Sounds similar to when I'd got bent synchro tabs in my rover overdrive (same synchros as gearbox) it could be made to go in by slipping the clutch and forcing it - not good but got me home! No idea if you can replace the tabs without a full strip down of the gearbox...
