04 td5- when engine breaking in gear there is a ticking/knocking noise from the gear box until i put the clutch in. its been going on for a month or so. dreading the though of a new gb! any ideas what it might be and if im looking at a couple of quid or 100's??

check gear box oil for cotamination can be prone for worn brgs best get changed or repaired if oil got metal in it before boxs destroys it self,

well if you cant take the gb out yourself, you will be looking at £100s? you could change the oil, look at the magnet to see how much metal is there?

does it drive ok? vibrate, jump out of gear, not go into gear. How loud is the knock?

it drives fine doesnt jump in or out of gear. the knocking is very noticable in 1st 2nd gear but then not so much. when decelerating its probly about 5or 6/10 in terms of loudness!
