Hey all,

Sorry if this has been covered i tried searching and couldnt find what i was looking for.

My old man bought a stage 1 with a 4 speed box and he thinks its the first RR engine 3.5 petrol. Hes having issues with the box and asked me to find out what he can do about it. Now the problems are its a complete b"£$%^d to get into gear, sometimes it goes in fine and other it just grinds crunches and generally makes a shed load of noise but will go in eventually.

He was wondering if it would be possible to put an auto box in it?

I was wondering how easy it would be to put a 200tdi with box in it?

Or any other suggestions would be helpful.

Cheers guys.

you could fit an auto box but you would have some work to fit it,does clutch clear fully does pumping pedal help ,if not cutch it will be baulk rings but another issus can be damage to gear dog teeth if its been used like that for too long meaning youd need gears as well as baulk rings to fix fully

guess that would involve stirpping the gearbox down and replacing stuff and re building? Any idea how easy if thats a real word in a landy owners dictionary generally not though fitting a 200tdi and box would be?

i should do ive rebuilt enough ,depends on your ability but id think it was feasible with a book and advice, it would be a shame to butcher a stage 1

im not sure what hes planning as he also said he was thinking about a rover engine and box, which i think might be his rover car engine and auto box hes on about

Im no purist but putting an auto in a stage 1 would be sacrilege. Just get a good second hand box or rebuild the old one. Could be simple like clutch as suggested so could be simple. Stage 1 was a bit of a special vehicle as it was the bridge from 109 to 110. A piece of history. If youe going to mess with it, at least put another manual box in! Autos nowhere near as fun behind an rv8 and dont sound as good through the gears.
Oh and fitting a dirty doozer over the v8 would be just wrong, how could you
