 The gearbox in me old series 2 gave up the fight recently. I've decided on a recon unit, question is, would it be worth fitting a series 3 box. My Landy is running on a standard 2286cc recon petrol engine and I'm 99.9% sure it'll fit in the physical sense, however are any of the following factors different between the two other than the synchromesh.

Gearing, Transmission brake, clutch slave, speedo cable port, brake lever.

I would appreciate any advice or input from members. Also is there owt I've forgotten ?.

Best regards WP

i read recently that the series 2 box was tougher than the 3 box, can't remember where i read it and i don't know how true it is. as soon as the drugs wear off and i can remember where i seen it i'll let you know otherwise it should be a straight swop

Cheers for the quick reply slob. Your dead right about the strength issue between the two. Had a series 2 box behind a V8 P6 I was running in me last Landy. Unfortunately DVLA and Plod spoilt that little jolly (it's still to painful to talk about). Anyway ta very much for the positive advice

oh i forgot to mention that the speedo cable might be different one is round at g/box end and tit other is oval

Cheers Slob, not overley concerned on that one as yet cos I aint lifted the old one out yet due to having to be in a zillion places for zillions of folk all at once. Gonna be makin a start soon and if I go for the "3" I will change me cable if needed. Thanks fo your help

i would have thought you could just change the drive over if need be. it would mean taking the hand brake off but thats not a big job
