Landrover have had the freelander 2 weeks now after the 1st attempt failed to cure the vibration noise (which is quite bad) there has been a notice issued from Landrover as it is a known fault on 06 TD4's, in fact the loan car is possibly worse than mine.

Any way asked them to check the performance as the freelander is sluggish and very clattery, the loan one is a lot fitter, quieter, smoother etc, etc. Also mine feels like the handbrake is on when reversing with lock on, again loan one doesn't, garage blamed the slightly bigger wheels??

Anyway they have had it 2 weeks, sorted the gear linkage with new linkage and bushes and reverse which I think is the IRD? just the engine now which could be the injectors/engine management, they said it will be trial and errors as there are no lights.

Not bad for an 06 with 3500miles on, gear box out, IRD out and now engine in bits!!!:(

Any comments welcome, are these common?

P.S. garage have been excellent, told me to keep the loan car for as long as it takes until the car is repaired to their satisfaction, how goods that they normally give you it back with endless trips, calls, letters back and forth. I did read the Landrover garages now have one of the best customer satisfaction reports, on this example I would agree..........shame about the old freelander.

Mmmm, getting very tempted to chop it in for the FL2, not my car the wifes, thats why its only done 3500miles. Just can't justify the cost, basic is £21K + bodystyling £1.3K + 19" wheels £2.2K + ,metallic £0.5K = £25K and you don't get a load cover on the S model?!

I have been driving the loan car, 56 FL1 TD4, up and down to work each (85mile round trip) day instead of my 150bhp tid saab and the novelty after 2 days has well and truly worn off....wife likes it though

Got it back and the difference is incredible, its had:

New clutch
New flywheel
New drive shafts
New gear linkage
New gear linkage bushes
Engine management clean and re-install

Hiya - you have any more details on this 'known fault' - what are the symptons and have LR issued a recall for this to be sorted??

Cheers

Stu

Freelanders nearly new, only 7 months old so all done under warrenty.

The fault is known to LR and is subject to a recall, I think it is for a replacement gear linkage and bushes on or around the gear box, anyway everything around that area looks to have been replaced. The 56 reg loan car we had was worse than ours so its seems like it effects most.

The symptom is a load vibration in 1st and 2nd in low revs.

The freelander is so much different but think that is mainly due to engine management, even fairly quite even when cold.

Thats er lotta faults to have fixed on a nearly new motor Tash , would have thought they would get it right first time. . . . .
