Hi I have a series 2 but it's running 1980 Range Rover running gear except for engine which is a 2.8 td Isuzu. The problem I am having is the gear box is shot and I need to replace it. It's a four speed manual with Fairey overdrive. Ideally I would like to fit a five speed but don't know what box to fit. I am new to Land Rovers and to forums, any help and advise would be appreciated. Thanks

With the set up you have the Isuzu will be married up to the R/R gearbox with an adapter plate. If you decide to change the gearbox the plate may not fit and that may be only the first of your problems. Think about the propshafts and gear lever entry point. If the overdrive is ok then I would look for another gearbox. Good luck
