hi all

I am looking at gasket sets for my V8 and I’m slightly confuffled! Composite or tin?

It’s a 1972 low compression, ?8.25 / 1 V8 from a classic.

What’s people’s thoughts on the best to use.

Many thanks

I’ve decided that rover must’ve got it right when they did this engine... I’m going with tin (under the advice of V8 tuner)

Tin is the original & assuming the mating surfaces are fine then should be no issue.
Composite will give better sealing but being thicker will lower the cr slightly. Much discussion on various websites that the loss of performance is a bad thing.
Replaced mine last year with elring composites & noticed bugger all difference in performance. Not really surprising for a big heavy vehicle with the aerodynamic profile of a garden shed.

Did the same with a 3.5efi RRC several years ago (9.35:1 engine) & I came to the self-same conclusion. The slight drop in CR probably meant it was happier with standard 95octane.
