Quick question:
I have a m57 engine from a 2003 BMW 330d with wire loom and ecu ......

Will the m57 engine bolt up to the p38 range rover?

Also how much power and torque and the running gear hold?
The m57 is tuned and pushing 520lbs ft of torque & 280bhp ;)

Would it be a major bit of work or is it semi simple?
I've done quite a few engine converstions in the past.

+1 to the Wammers advice...

The standard box is barely man enough for the standard P38 engine...let alone 520 Torques and 280 Horses...

Standard auto box 300Nm, diffs not a lot more. you would need a complete transmission transplant as well as the engine.

Sounds like a fun project if you have the funds, facilities and are prepared for some setbacks. BMW managed to squeeze a V12 in but it didn't go into production. Ashcroft's do a stronger torque converter and apparently RPi do a flex plate for 300bhp? Lots of people have put in different engines in the P38. I am half way in on a project to install a Rolls Royce Shadow engine, I have a crashed car to play with, only funds holding it up. If you have enough imagination nearly anything is possible! Would suggest looking at Australian and American forums as they seem more adventurous.
If I do succeed in getting the 6.75 litre Rolls engine working I am hoping for a reliable long distance tourer. More power for overtaking and the petrol consumption will not be much worse than the 4.6 presently in it. I don't drive doing F1 starts. Smooth delivery is more relaxing. I know the Rolls engine well having had several cars in the past.

I seem to remember 8mpg on my roller:eek: If I left the engine running when filling up the pump couldn't keep up LOL.

She wasn't running very well then. Should get better than that. Think I was getting 12 on average, even better on a long gentle run. If pushed would be in single figures.
LPG is an option too as is injection to help.

I wasn't really of the right age for a Roller:rolleyes: Drove it like I stole it:eek: Company was paying for fuel:D

Was just a thought seems a waste of engine just sitting in the trailer :(
Ill find another bmw to chuck it in ;) it does go very well !

there has been a couple of people that have converted the p38 to the 3.0 td6 (M57 engine) i emailed a guy who has done this as i wanted to do mine but there is a lot of work involved in order to get it to run
