Both the 60 amp fuses under the bonnet on my 90 blew tonight!

The effect was to stop the engine from starting on the key - to the point I actually thought it as the immobiliser which has been giving problems (but has now been fixed by the guys at Terrain in Hastings).

The recovery guy narrowed it down to the fuses and on checking found one of the 60 amp ones had blown. He didnt have any with him so tried a 30 amp fuse. When we tried turning over the other 60 blew. So he popped in another 30 and it started first time.

He thinks that the problem is a wire somewhere shorting and blowing the fuses. The only other electrical funny I have noticed is that the trailer light on the dash will sometimes light up when indicating - its seems worse in the damp / rain, (we were caught in a bit of a sea mist this evening)

Can anyone point me in the right direction - I am worried I may have knocked something whilst scrubbing the rust from the rear end - but can't see anything out of place. Is there a method for finding things like this?

In the meantime I am going to carry a few extra fuses in the hope that if they blow that will at least get us going again. However any other wise words would be welcome.

if the 30s are working fine! then ther are two options..

1 leave them in and risk them blowing on a cold wet night..

2 change them now at a time most convenient.

as an arse cover, always stick to the manufacturers rated fuses, i have seen a fuse "blow" in such a way it still made the circuit. V dangerous,

that said, you could have trouble free motoring with them in from now till time end. it really is your chioce.

Thanks Taff - changed to the 60's straight after reading your post. Makes sense to me. Still not sure why they blew - but hope it was just down to the removal of the spider and the fact they were very old.

definately removing the spider without any doubt,
you are lucky to get off lightly with just two fuses. lol

sometimes fuses just pop. like bulbs, there is not always a reason other than they cant be arsed to live anymore. lol

keep the 30s close to hand just in case though, would make a nice limp home kit!
