I was having some puffs of white smoke on cold start ups, but that seems to have cleared up for the most part... or only happens very infrequently.Have you looked to see if any odd puffs coming from exhaust?
Anyway to diagnose? How do you deal with that? How about diesel bug, possibility?
I occasionally get a bit of black smoke when I accelerate under load, but just small puffs and clears up soon as my RPM;s come up and nothing compared to how my old VW diesels would smoke.White smoke is unburnt fuel, it would be worth checking the injectors. Put it on a reader. It sounds like an intermittent problem. Check injector loom for oil ingress, known Td5 issue.
Diesel bug produces a black sludge in tank, filter, fuel lines. Result is poor performance or not going at all.
I am actually dealing with two different smells.... a gun power type smell on start up and then a funky smell when running"Starting" ... ahh, having read the thread this wasn't a spelling error then
I just Googled your question and it said it can make the exhaust smell differently to normal. I think that is with older fuel and fuel with water in it.Anyway to diagnose? How do you deal with that?
I don't believe so... I at least never did, and don't believe the previous owner did... but would have to crawl under to confirm, ha.Has your Cat been removed, I replaced mine after getting really smelly exhaust and its now sweet as a nut again. I also replaced the EGR, removing it made no difference to economy or performance.
