I had fun today, I was going along the motorway, when i noticed the fuel guage was falling fairly rapidly! So it turned out that the diesel smell was not from the rag next to the gear stick, but infact the fountain of diesel that was blasting out of the coupling on the injector pump feed and rustproofing my engine compartment!

So no rust in there!

The plastic push type coupling had sprung a leak and was simply blasting out, the teeth were there and didn't seem damaged, but the pipe would just slide in and out, I can't understand why!?!?

Oh well, £20 of diesel down the motorway! Could be worse! I called my friend who soon had his Disco parked up next to me, we stole the couplings from the return side of the pump, figuring it was not as vital on that side, we were then left with the return pipes and no way to connect the two.

While this was all happening a Lightweight pulls up, a guy jumps out and is soon rumaging for fuel line connectors, however he uses 10mm so they were to big. But he did have rubber tubing on his return side, so we cut 3 inches of it, and used it to connect the two ends of my plastic line! Brilliant.

Its great what LR drivers will do. It made me want to go out and find a LR driver just to help them! (ended up helping a woman in a merc)

So thats the fix done and dusted, will just leave it like it is as its fine, will however carry some spare rubber pipe, and some jubilee clips.

So what do you guys use for fuel lines?

I carry a couple of lumps of neoprene tubing ... available from all good motorcycle spares shops (but not Hein Gerik)
