My brother in law is in the process of rebuilding a 1984 series 3 LWB Land Rover in Canada and has asked me to locate a full set of Wheel Arch Spat as he puts it " The black wheel fenders"

Could anyone point me in the right direction to locate a set.

Many Thanks

A series 3 would not have wheel spats, but an early 110 would, so you need to confirm what he is actually rebuilding for if he needs them. '84 sounds a little late for a lwb series 3, combined with requiring spats it is most likely a 110 (an early defender, the defender name did not come in until the 90's). Pics below from google, they look very different (without getting into the mechanical differences) so should be easy to identify what he actually has.

As others have said, it is worth checking the vehicle.

You can fit "Defender" style spats/arches but you will need to cut the Series wings to get the right shape, else they will look odd with lots of metal on the inside of the spat.

You can run outer front wings from a Defender on a Series as a work around, but the rear tub would still need the arch opening trimming.

You used to be able to get spats in the aftermarket for the Series vehicles, because in the UK tyres need to be covered and can't stick out, so would be needed if running wide rims/tyres and/or if you fitted the wider coiler axle from a Range Rover. But I haven't seen anyone selling anything like these for a long time now.

Another option if it is just about covering the wheels would be the generic kits like the Bushranger flexi flares, which you should be able to source more easily in N. America.

Hi,

Thank dag019 for the comprehensive information , I will pass it back for confirmation.

Many Thanks.

My series 3 is 84 but swb does that make a difference
yes. From memory the lwb was replaced by the 110 in '82 and the swb was replaced by the 90 in '84 but that is completely from memory and I am sure someone will come along shortly and correct me the a full date, production numbers, etc!!!

Some people fit spats to series Landrovers. It was a thing in the late eighties.
They do but they don't look right, also the rear arch cutout on a lwb is a different shape to a 110 so a standard spat would not fit as @300bhp/ton has said.

If you can get and post some photos of the vehicle it would help, plus everyone likes to see pictures of others projects!
