Before I go bothering the guy at the local LR indy shop, I thought I would ask here. I should be able to figure this stuff out, but my brains fried

Using lots of fuel, both LPG and petrol, smells eggy (or a weird whiff when on LPG) plenty power, loads of power. Low down it can be a wee bit lumpy, more so on LPG. After running a long way (over 30 miles) the LPG starts getting more & more lumpy low down until it is almost impossible to drive below 3000rpm.

Switch to petrol and all is well, although slight evidence of lumpy at lower speeds (but drivable).

The smell from the exhaust is pretty bad as previously mentioned.

Normally I'd suspect the cat is choked, but plenty power seems to rubbish that theory.

Starts on the button hot or cold, switches to LPG as it should. The "problem" red light comes on when it starts to run lumpy, but goes off when floored or lifted off.

LPG guy says he thinks it might be an exhaust problem, slight leak. There is, but it's tiny from the downpipe gasket(s).

I don't have a full length system as the back boxes rotted out and I only just received the new ones. So I am running an old back box from my Jaguar as a centre only box which vents out to the side. It worked perfectly until I put on the Magnecor leads. Now the car has more power, but this issue started.

Confused dot com o_O

I know there are things to check such as temp sensor and whatnot, but given all that info, could it just be the Jaguar back box is causing a bit of a choke point??

"Eggy" smell is usually the CAT doing its job when the mixture has been too rich or there is a lot of un-burnt fuel in the exhaust because it is over-fueling I think.

Eggy smell used to by Hydrogen Sulphide, not noticeable normally since petrol became low Sulphur.
I would bet it's over fuelling.

Thanks for all the replies. I believe it may be over fueling, but on both petrol and LPG!

However, I put £50 petrol in and did 24 miles there and 24 miles back. While the gauge moved, it didn't move as far as I expected o_O

I was thinking (having read some horror stories) if it's down to 8mpg, I'd have used 6 gallons or so, but the gauge showed a smidge more than normal...

I say normal because I rarely use petrol (once a week average just to try and let the car know it still runs on petrol, that and to try and piss off the tree huggers of course ) and I think I was returning 12mpg or more judging by the use. So I plan to address the leak as soon as my new centre section arrives. I decided to heed advice and not let it run like a bag of any kind of metal :D

Meanwhile, using wife's car as she's away for a week getting her teeth fixed at home (after a clown here charged her £500 and butchering her teeth) and fetching our newest family member. She's coming back in a van (albeit a Mercedes Vito passenger van) and may get stuck in France thanks to the froggies and their massive upset....o_O If anyone here is near any of the ports, let me know I'll send her & the drivers your way for a stop over. She'll pay of course.

This is the as yet un-named, but a type of Yorkie with a gentle nature :)

Your wife French?

Ah OK, just wondered about her being stuck in France. My wife is French.
Nowhere near the ports so can't help there.

Well, she's not leaving Lithuania until Thursday, but not sure if the strike will be over by then?!

I can only imagine they will be taking the most direct route so they will barely be touching France. I think (although things may change) they will be going by the tunnel...

The tunnel is a dodgy prospect at the moment with all the strikes and things are said to be going to get worse with the SNCF./Eurostar.
The ferry might be a better bet.
Thats a long old drive, bonne route.

Back on track... I found the temp sensor plug was sitting proud (showing the yellow water seal) so I poked it back down.

I "think" it may have caused most of my issue. I also noticed yesterday that the temp on the dash was slower to rise before I found this... So the question is now, how long will it take the ecu to reconfigure the fuel trims? I have a drive to Perth in the early hours tomorrow and don't want to be using millions of fuel...216 miles there and back

Funny, thought I'd posted the above, but this shitty Win10 Dell sometimes doesn't do anything even when you click the mouse...

So I went to the local chap and he plugged in. Loads of lambda errors caused by several things including the sensor having not been contacting. He reset the parameters and instructed me not to use the LPG in the meantime to see what else crops up.

However, it seems my expensive MAF is dead. Either that or a wiring issue. I have been through this before and it seems to be the cause of my little hesitation that's been dogging me for years o_O

I can't see any broken wires so is there a test I can do to check for continuity from the plug at the MAF to ECU or should his expensive equipment do it? It's so good, the local LR dealer go to him.

But what a difference after he reset the trims. No more stink and a smoother pickup after I get over the hesitation. I was prepared to travel to Perth, but she's rolling in there at 09:00 give or take so she's getting the train.

I also noticed the temp gauge taking a wee bit longer to rise so I suspect the thermostat may be getting weary. Although, it was barely above freezing both times I watched it so may just be the cold. The heater seems unaffected as it gets warm quick enough...

Bloody car
