Hi All,

At the weekend i connected up a Nanocom to the P38, and found that the fuel temperature was showing -8degC (this was before start up, and with an air temp of 8degC and an overnight temp of 0degC) and after warming up (coolant temp 80degC+) it was showing 4degC.

Is the temperature sensor mounted inside the pump? and can i change it?

BTW, fuel consuption is bad (12mpg)...

As always any help much appreciated,

Regards,

AB.

Yep the Sensor is in the Pump....

Can you change it - no Idea - will chack RAVE

Nothing in RAVE for the Fuel Temp Sensor changing

Word of warning though, I had the correct Bosch tool and the head just rounded off the security bolt, so hammer on a 7mm socket and replace with a normal cap head bolt

Yes it can be changed. But fuel temp sensor showing a lower than engine ambient temp should not cause bad fuel consumption it is measuring the temp of the fuel coming from the tank. The lower the fuel temp the more dense the fuel so less is injected. Depending on how many miles it is showing. A good general service including cleaning of the intercooler may improve the consumption. Having the injectors serviced and pump timing checked would usually give good results. But you will always get higher fuel usage on winter diesel.

try running on Black diesel then if you want better MPG as engine oil has a much higher calorific value then pump diesel

a P38 on black should average up to 32 mpg

but pay your tax or risk loosing your car!
