As with all things new nothing lines up as it should, got new chassis, new fuel tank and new fuel tank guard.
The problem is the drain plug hole on the fuel tank guard doesn't line up with the actual drain plug and prevents access, part of me thinks good, stop any thieving gits from nicking my fuel.

Should I widen the access to my drain plug or just leave it as is?

What @My Old Landy says. Not much point making it accessible when you're unlikely to need it .. unless of course it's in poor condition! ;)

Hopefully shouldn't need to drain it, do have a siphon available if needs must.
On closer inspection it looks like the drain plug is actually touching the guard, worried now that with all bouncing and vibrations the plug will get damaged and cause a leak.

I think my fuel tank was adjustable fore and aft, if only 1/4 inch, add spacers at the rear and it's rubber mounted at the front, I think. Might be worth looking at ... If it isn't movable then cut the guard so it has no chance of touching .. :)

Leave it. If you need into your tank then take the sender out and you can peer in and pump it out and all sorts.

Your new tank will rot out in about 2-3 years anyway so I doubt you will ever need into it!
