Hi, first time to post here, so be gentle if this has been asked before.

I bought a 1996 300tdi disco. It was laying up for a few months, ran great for a week, but then it started to loose power - loss of revs and then might pick up a little or might die. I spotted a fuel leak from the rubber pipe connecting the banjos on the front of the injector. I replaced all the pipes, but now diesel is coming from behind the banjo and its still dieing!

I've tried tightening the bolt but no good loosing them off helped a little but she's still loosing power. Also I have no fuel coming from the bleed screw on top of the fuel filter.

So, what now???

no mate there is a small pump on the drivers side of the engine block near the bulkhead. It has a little lever on the bottom of it. This is driven off the cam shaft,so you will have to get the cam in the right place for the pump to work off the lever. You will know when its in the right place as you will feel resitence on the lever. Just turn the engine over 1/4 turn and press the lever down each time till it feels like there is pressure on it. Have you had a ticking sound at all.
 
i would try it first to see if it pushes diesel through. Think its after the filter thou. Have you tried cracking off the injectors one by one. Just to see if any fuel is flowin through.

I think the filter is after it.......but Im not sure either
 
I replaced the perished pipes, but the new ones seem to be to big a bore as when the pressure is on their blowing out fuel, I've changed the washers. I checked the pick up pump and its pumping fuel manualy and off the crank.

Think I'll get some tighter pipes and soften them in boiling water and let them shrink on to the banjo nozzles, then I'll take off the pick up pump and stick a bit of brass weld on to the arm to increase the pick up as perhaps it not pumping enough, hence no fuel from the filter bleed screw (from what I can see the pickup fills the filter and the fuel pump draws from the filter to the injectors. If that doesn't work then I'll change the pick up pump too. but it'll be Tuesday as it a bank holiday here.

How's that sound to you guys??
 
Got a length of rubber pipe to link the banjos on the injectors. same bore as the originals ( or so I thought) but the pressure is sliding them back and so leaking more fuel.

What type of pipe or what dimensions of pipe do I need??
 
I just bought a length of injector bleed off pipe from my local motor factors. But can't help you on the bire size.
 
i heard something about the engine running still even if the pipes are the wrong way round on the lift pump.... cant think in my head right now if that would cause your problem but you seem to have a lot of pressure. Find another 300 and compare the pipework.
 
I would have to agree with the above post. There does seem to be alot of back pressure for whatever reason. My bleed off's had started to slide back abit,but found out it was the engine cover pushing on them when the engine was rev'd. Only land rover lol.
